Reason #4

Weak Limbs

At best, the wood of a new limb that sprouts after a larger limbs is truncated is more weakly attached than a limb that develops more normally. If rot exists or develops at the severed end of the limb, the weight of the sprout makes a bad situation even worse.

Reason # 3

Insects and Disease

The large stubs of a topped tree have a difficult time forming callus. The terminal location of these cuts, as well as their large diameter, prevent the tree's  chemically based natural defense system from doing its job. The stubs are highly vulnerable to insect invasion and the spores of decay fungi. If decay is already present in the limb, the opening will speed the spread of the disease.

Reason #2

Shock:

A tree's crown is like an umbrella that shields much of the tree from the direct rays of the sun. By suddenly removing this protection, the remaining bark tissue is so exposed that scalding may result. There may also be a dramatic effect on neighboring trees and shrubs. If the tree thrives in shade and the shade is removed, poor health or death may result.

Why should you NOT top a tree??

Reason #1

STARVATION: Good pruning practices rarely remove more than one-fourth of the crown, which in turn does not seriously interfere with the ability of a tree's leafy crown to manufacture food.

Topping removes so much of the crown that it upsets an older tree's well-developed crown-to-root ration and temporarily cuts off its food making ability.

In Virginia and West Virginia the Bradford Pear is already in bloom...In Michigan, the  Bradford Pear will soon be in bloom with gorgeous white flowers...and while the Bradford Pear has beautiful aesthetics, the beauty does not come without some of the negative growth characteristics of a Bradford Pear...which are: weak unions and included bark; leaving them prone to split, leaving the average life to 30 years or less. However, a skilled arborist can mitigate the risk of losing a Bradford Pear by cabling and adding structural support to the tree. So, please call the experts at Get-R-Cut for all your tree care needs.

what people say

  • I had Get-R-Cut come to my house to do some pruning on Oak trees in my backyard. We had some areas that we had different kinds of plants that were directly under the trees to be pruned that we did not want damaged. Jared and Chris did a great job in avoiding any damage to those areas. Jared did a great job in removing a lot of dead branches and pruning up the trees to providing an idea shape to them. Chris, Jared's helper, did a tremendous job managing things on the ground and constantly removing brush and cutting up branches to move to their chipper.
The clean up process was very well done. I would highly recommend them to others if they need trees pruned or removed. I will be having them return to remove 3 very large trees from our front yard in the near future to get rid of potential problems with them.

  • I met Jared at a Business Network International meeting. Every person I spoke with recommended JB Landscape Services for their professionalism, dependability, honesty, and integrity.

I asked for a load of seasoned hardwood cut in 16" lengths. Forty-eight hours later we had a full cord and a short bit more. It appeared to be a mixture of oak, birch, and hickory. None of it appeared to be green. We have burned three fires and each one has been perfect--easy to start--and each burned to complete ash.

I understand that they have since begun focusing their business solely on the tree service side of landscaping as Get-R-Cut.com. There is every reason to believe that this is the perfect realignment.

At least from this experience, I wholeheartedly recommend this family owned business.

    Thanks Baxter's. You're great!

  • Jared and his Team at Get-R-Cut did an excellent job removing two trees in our back yard and trimming 4 large oaks we had in our front yard. I have worked with Jared on other projects in the past and I will continue to call on Jared for future projects.
